the Ontario Funeral Service Association, and

successfully chaired the Meridian Centre Fund

Raising Committee.

OGR is proud to announce that

Toland-

Herzig Funeral Homes &Crematory

in Do-

ver, OH was awarded the 2017 Golden Rule

Community Service Award. The Golden Rule

Community Service Award, now in its eighth

year, is awarded in recognition of a funer-

al home’s outstanding community service as

demonstrated by involvement benefiting local

organizations or community events.

Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes are being rec-

ognized for its Famous Endings Museum. The

museum helps make the community more

comfortable when visiting the funeral home.

“All funeral homes are designed to honor and

remember people in our families and commu-

nities who have died. We have taken it a step

further in making ours a place where we can

honor and remember those who have used

their God-given talents and strengths to make

our world a better place,”

said

John Herzig

.

The museum sheds a dif-

ferent light on death, and it

now has hundreds of visitors

who enjoy the funeral home.

Those who have visited have

found the museum to be a

history lesson focusing on

entertainers, sports figures,

religious leaders, civil rights,

astronauts, and inventors

who lived their lives to make

ours better.

“The museum is a fine ex-

ample of a funeral home

contributing to the wellbe-

ing of its surrounding com-

munity. Toland-Herzig has

taken a huge step in educat-

ing the community on fu-

neral service in a very inno-

vative fashion,” said Peter

“Skip” Urban, OGR’s Im-

mediate Past President.

OGR presented the Exem-

plary Service Award to

Faul-

mann and Walsh Gold-

en Rule Funeral Home

in

Fraser, MI,

Graham Funer-

al Home

in Chesapeake,

VA, and

Cassaday-Turkle

Christian Funeral Home

in

Alliance, OH. OGR’s Exem-

plary Service Award recog-

nizes member firms for the

outstanding customer ser-

vice they provided to fami-

lies during their time of loss.

One family whom Faul-

mann and Walsh Golden

Rule Funeral Home helped

shared the following: “The

visitation was a great expe-

rience. When we walked in,

the first thing we saw was a

beautiful tapestry that they

made for us, which we were

not expecting, but it was in-

credible and a great trib-

ute to our dad. The clos-

er we looked at everything,

the more pleased we were.

They incorporated stained

glass that our father made.

They took the pictures that

we uploaded late the night

before and made a nice trib-

ute to his time in the mili-

tary. They included a picture

of a boat that he had restored

in the memorial cards. Af-

ter attending funerals at oth-

er places, I had forgotten

what the “home” part of funeral home re-

ally means. A lot of other places feel more

like a hotel lobby. This place really felt like

they were taking care of us in their home,

and we couldn’t be happier. We hope our

family lives long, but it is clear to all of us

that if anything were to happen, Faulmann

&Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home is the

place we would want to be.”

One family whom Graham Funeral

Home helped shared the following: “At a

time when I was devastated with the sudden

loss of my mother, Terri at Graham Funeral

Home stepped up and completely became a

godsend. She was a tremendous blessing to

me during the most horrible time of my life.

My mother didn’t want, nor did she like, fu-

nerals, so I didn’t want a stuffy service. I was

able to work with Graham Funeral Home

to have a ceremony at a local arboretum

that included music and items about Mom.
