Veterans Funeral Care Hosts Soul
Injury Event

CLEARWATER,FL— Over
sixty-five professionals and
community members at-
tended an educational eve-
ning learning about Soul
Injuries. The 90 minute
film followed by a pan-
el discussion was a project
produced by Opus Peace in
partnership with the Hos-
pice Foundation of America
and sponsored by Veterans
Funeral Care. Continuing
education credits were giv-
en to nurses, social workers,
clergy, therapists and other
professionals.
Soul Injury is a new para-
digm for assessing acute and
chronic trauma. It is a spec-
trum of penetrating wounds
that range from traumatic to
insidious that separates one
from their own sense of self,
causing a person to feel de-
fective or worthless. The or-
igin for addressing Soul In-
jury originated with six VA
hospice nurses who cared for
10,000 dying Veterans. They
witnessed Soul Injuries first-
hand as the wounds surfaced
unbidden on the deathbeds
of combat Veterans.
Veterans Funeral Care pres-
ident, Jim Rudolph, noted,
“I was shocked at the raw
emotion. Caregivers I have
known for years crying; it
take them only so far’ now I know what is
missing for many of them.”
