until her premature death

1989 and finally, their son
C. Victor Rone
. Mary &
Doc Rone became larger
than life figures locally but
not before they struggled
like new business owners.
They overcame a series of
personal and family trage-
dies that may have caused
a lesser couple to give up
their dream.

years of service with “An Evening of
Jazz and Christmas Music” on De-
cember 10, 2012. The musical ex-
travaganza was produced by
Wil-
liam L. Russo
, Funeral Director
in charge, and held at the histor-
ic 147-year-old Mt. Vernon United
Methodist Church located adjacent
to the funeral home in the heart of
Houston’s Fifth Ward.
The featured performer was re-
nowned jazz guitarist
Joe Carmouche
and his band featuring sax, bass gui-
tar, keyboards and drums. A delight-
ful blend of Christmas classics, as

co-founded
The Rone
Funeral Service
in 1932. Mary was the
driving force behind the scenes. Not only
did she work side by side with her hus-
band to establish the business, she also
worked in a local clothing factory to sup-
port the family while her husband attend-
ed Mortuary school to acquire the edu-
cation and the professional credentials
