Posted by The National Museum of Funeral History on April 1, 2016

The National Museum of Funeral History (NMFH) in Houston will welcome supporters to the NMFH 22nd Annual Charity Golf Classic on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Kingwood Country Club, located at 1700 Lake Kingwood Trail, Kingwood, TX 77339. This five-person scramble tournament provides an excellent opportunity to network and socialize with cemetery and funeral professionals and executives from across the country that come together on the greens to raise funds to support the Museum.  With more than 120 sponsors and 385 players supporting the annual fundraiser last year, the Museum continues its mission to enlighten visitors of one of man’s oldest cultural rituals and celebrate the rich history of funeral service.

For sponsors, the fun begins on Sunday, May 15 during the Sponsor Appreciation Night at the National Museum of Funeral History complex. Light hors d’oeuvres and complimentary cocktails will be served among the Museum exhibits. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy hand-rolled cigars in an exclusive outdoor cabana, check-in early for the tournament, bid on the silent auction items, purchase raffle and mulligan tickets, and explore the Museum.

The tournament kicks off the next morning, Monday, May 16 with breakfast in Kingwood Country Club’s clubhouse followed by the Golf Classic’s shotgun start, after which players will compete in a five-person golf scramble. On-course contests with tee-prizes and professional long drive fundraising entertainment will be located throughout the course. Additionally, a variety of vendors will be on-site for the tournament and players will each receive a voucher that can be used towards product purchases and special savings on the day of the event.  Following the 18 holes, players retreat to the clubhouse for a silent auction, dinner and awards ceremony.

Individual player tickets are $375. A five-person team is $1875. Sponsorships range from $1,000 - $20,000.  Online pre-registration for the tournament is ongoing at www.NMFH.org through April 31. As a courtesy to sponsors, NMFH offers discounted travel and hotel rates. View “Travel Accommodations” on www.NMFH.org for discount codes. Those unable to register online, are encouraged to contact the Museum at 281-876-3063 for assistance.

The Museum is also currently accepting items and monetary donations for the following themed raffle baskets: Golf, Pit Master Barbeque, Night on the Town, Wine, and Get-Away Vacation.  Any donation made towards these baskets will include a "donated by" card. Those interested in donating or seeking more information should call 281-876-3063. (No promotional items, please.)

Sponsorships and support of the National Museum of Funeral History’s Annual Charity Golf Classic ensures the growth and preservation of the Museum, which houses the nation’s largest collection of funeral service artifacts in its 30,500 square-foot building, featuring 14 permanent exhibits and a temporary exhibition space. The current special exhibit, Honoring Olivewood, is on view through May 29 and features a beautiful collection of photographs of the historic Olivewood Cemetery, Houston’s first and oldest incorporated African-American cemetery, which pre-dates the end of slavery.

Additionally, preparation for two new Museum features is also underway. As part of the Celebrating the Lives & Deaths of the Popes permanent exhibit, the new “Making of a Saint” section will showcase the beatification and canonization processes the Vatican undergoes to reckon new saints and feature a special collection of artifacts from now Saint John Paul II. A new permanent exhibit entitled The History of Cremation, which was created in partnership with the Cremation Association of North America (CANA), will feature artifacts and interactive components to showcase cremation through the ages and how we memorialize our dearly departed.

We hope you can join us at the Charity Golf Classic and Sponsor Appreciation Night. It’s a swinging good time, all in support of everyone’s favorite funeral industry museum!
