I think we all know the saying: “Let Go and Let God.” The question is: how do we do it, and if we do, will it work? I tend to find it easiest to let go when I need divine intervention. My world hits a roadblock, I need to move in a new direction I just don’t know which one, I know there are better answer(s) / better way(s) than mine, and my entire being is questioning: am I on the right path? Here it is easy – I have no choice – I need to Let Go and Let God.

In these moments I say a simple prayer. “God you made me. You know I do not get subtlety, please do not use it. Please place me on the path that allows me to actualize the gifts and talents you have given me. Please get me out of my own way and allow me to become all I am able to be. I Love You, Amen.”

The hard part is knowing that I need to wait for the path to appear. Fortunately, I have yet to wait long. When I place my life in God’s hands, really place it there, the answers, the guidance, and the tools that I need arrive.

It is a little harder to let go when I think I have it all under control, or worse, when my faith in knowing that things always work out for the best is taken over by my need to have things work out my way. Here the question becomes: How can you let go and Let God when you don’t think you need to or you don’t have the faith to trust the outcome? The answer may be in the “Memo From God” my Dad has given to all of us. Though we do not know who wrote it, I am grateful to be able to share it with you now.

Memo From God

To:       You

Date: TODAY

From: GOD

Subject: YOURSELF

Reference: LIFE

“This is God. Today I will be handling ALL of your problems for you. I do NOT need your help. So, have a nice day. I love you. And, remember…if life happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, do not attempt to resolve it yourself! Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for God to do) box. I will get to it in MY TIME. All situations will be resolved, but in MY time, not yours. Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold onto it by worrying about it. Instead, focus on all the wonderful things that are present in your life now. Should you decide to send this to a friend, thank you. You may have touched their life in ways you will never know!

Now, you have a nice day.

  God”

Like the memo says: things put in the box do not happen on our time and this may be why it is harder for me to let go when I still have the strength, or is it stupidity, to hold on. Fortunately I tend to see how dumb it is to hold on to the worry, the problem, or the outcome that I know is better left in God’s hands. Eventually I let go and the answers, they come.

Still I think the hardest time to let go is when my world is on auto pilot. Everything is aligning, my goals are accomplishing themselves, and I think wow life just can’t get better than this. You guessed it these are the moments I am letting go and letting God even though I do not have a care in the world.

The problem is instead of recognizing the gifts that are coming from letting go I start to see all the possible hiccups that are on the horizon. Here is when I need to remember to stop saying life can’t get better than this, follow my friend Alice’s advice, ask how can it get any better than this, and let go.

I look forward to hearing about what letting go, getting out of your own way, and accepting life’s gifts brings to you. Please give me a ring at 781-331-5308 or send me an email at kristan@mooneytunco.com.
