Easter-ween, Spring Break, Golf Tournaments, Oh My!

Posted by The National Museum of Funeral History on March 2, 2016

The National Museum of Funeral History is chock full of unique happenings this month.

Halloween in March? After excessive rain and several rounds of inclement weather throughout the greater Houston area last October, a number of events around the city were canceled and/or rescheduled, including the 8th Annual Halloween Classic Car Show at the National Museum of Funeral History. With the “makeup date” of March 12, 2016 so close to Easter – the traditionally Halloween-themed affair is now an “Easter-ween” event, rewinding to everyone’s favorite spooky holiday with a twist, including an Easter egg hunt for kids wearing Halloween costumes, all while helping to support local charities.

Featuring more than 150 cars from classic to contemporary, from motorized to hoof, families will enjoy the spring festival atmosphere from 10am-3pm on Saturday, March 12 with a costume contest at noon (people can dress for Halloween just like in October’s shows), “The Dead DJ’s,” silent auction and more. And – for those who want to enter their car in the show, pre-registration is recommended. Remember – anyone can enter! Participants are encouraged to “dress up” their car for Halloween and entering it into the contest for the best decorated car.

Blast from the Past Street Machines of Texas will be judging the car show from 10am-2pm in a variety of categories and issuing a plethora of awards at 3pm. Proceeds from the car show go to Star of Hope, Morning Glory Ranch, The Shriner’s Burn Hospital, Houston Food Bank and The USO. Admission is $3 for individuals or $5 for couples and families. Admission to the museum is separate and is not included. Free parking is available throughout the area.

The Easter-ween Car Show kicks off several weeks of Spring Break in Houston, which is a great time for families to visit the Museum and check out the country’s largest collection of funeral service artifacts. Kids can go on a scavenger hunt through the museum, exploring exhibits like A Life Well Lived: Fantasy Coffins from Ghana, Coffins and Caskets of the Past, Celebrating the Lives and Deaths of the Popes, 19th Century Mourning, History of Embalming, Day of the Dead and more while answering interesting questions and learning more about one of man’s oldest professions. There’s definitely something for everyone at the National Museum of Funeral History – from pop culture enthusiasts, car aficionados, science buffs, political junkies, history fans and more.

For golf enthusiasts, registration is now open on the Museum’s website at www.nmfh.org for the 22nd Annual NMFH Charity Golf Classic, an annual fundraiser supporting the Museum and its mission. On Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Kingwood Country Club, in Kingwood, TX, business executives and funeral industry professionals from across the country will take to the greens to raise funds for the Museum. The tournament kicks off with breakfast followed by a shotgun start, after which players compete in a five-person golf scramble. On-course contests with tee-prizes and professional long drive fundraising entertainment are located throughout the course. Following the 18 holes, players retreat to the clubhouse for a silent auction, dinner and awards ceremony. It’s a swinging good time, all in support of everyone’s favorite funeral industry museum!
