Holiday Festivities Abound at the National Museum of Funeral History: Celebrating Livelihood and Loved Ones with Memorable Holiday Activities

Posted by The National Museum of Funeral History on December 1, 2014

The National Museum of Funeral History is a great place to visit during the holiday season. While the kids are on holiday from school, continue their “edu-tainment” with a visit to the museum to explore more than 30,000 square feet of exhibit space and learn about the mourning rituals of ancient civilizations, see up-close the authentic items used in the funerals of U.S. Presidents and Popes, explore the rich heritage of the industry which cares for the dead and more.

Plus, the museum is celebrating the holiday season with donations of food and mementos of love. With millions of people dying each year of hunger, the National Museum of Funeral History is taking a stand and joining the fight against hunger. During December, museum visitors can give back to the community and give life to those in need by bringing canned food items to the museum for $2 off general admission. The National Museum of Funeral History will donate all collected food items to the Houston Food Bank.

Then, with help of the community, the National Museum of Funeral History will create a special holiday tree to recognize and honor our departed friends and family. Visitors can decorate a paper holiday ornament and write on it the name of their deceased loved one to display on the museum’s holiday tree. Families are also welcome to decorate and take home a special ornament for their own tree.

There’s always something interesting to learn and explore at the National Museum of Funeral History. With more than 12 permanent exhibits, there’s something for everyone at the museum. Science junkies will love the “History of Embalming” exhibit. History buffs will love the “Presidential Funerals” exhibit. Pop culture fans will love the “Thanks for the Memories” exhibit. Car enthusiasts will enjoy the Historical Hearses exhibition. Other permanent exhibits include – Ghana Fantasy Coffins, Coffins & Caskets of the Past, Lives & Deaths of the Popes, 19th Century Mourning Customs and more. There’s something for everyone. We hope to see you soon!
