Meanwhile, mix the following in a small bowl: 1 Tbsp cinnamon 2 Tbsp sugar 1 cup brown sugar 1½ cups chopped walnuts Grease 11 x 17” pan and spread with half of the cake mix and half of the sugar-nut mix. Repeat with remaining halves of cake and sugar-nut mix. Bake at 350º for 30 minutes. While cake is baking, mix together: 1½ cups confectioners sugar 3 Tbsp milk 1 tsp vanilla 1 tsp butter flavoring (optional) 1 tsp vanilla Drizzle over warm cake. “In 1663 in New England, cranberries (bounce berries) were tested for ripeness by their ability to bounce.” –American Heritage Cookbook Cranberry sauce and brown sugar create a tangy glaze for meatballs that make a wonderful appetizer or a great main dish. This is a microwave recipe, however, the old-fashioned, stove-top way would work as well. CHRISTMAS MEATBALLS 2 eggs 1 envelope onion soup mix ½ cup seasoned bread crumbs ¼ cup chopped dried cranberries 2 Tbsp minced parsley 1½ lbs lean ground beef SAUCE: 1 16-ounce can whole cranberry sauce ¾ cup ketchup ½ cup beef broth 3 Tbsp brown sugar 3 Tbsp finely chopped onion 2 tsp cider vinegar Combine eggs, soup mix, bread crumbs, cranberries and parsley. Mix well with ground beef. Shape into 1” balls; place 12-14 balls on a microwave safe plate and cover with wax paper. Cook on high for 3-4 minutes, until no longer pink. Remove the wax paper and re- peat for all meatballs. In microwave-safe dish, com- bine sauce ingredients. Cover and cook on high 3-4 minutes until heated thoroughly. Gently stir in meat- balls. DAYTON,OH— The Na- tional Concrete Burial Vault Association (NCB- VA) held its annual meet- ing November 4-5, 2018 in Dallas, TX. The meet- ing was conducted at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ar- lington and was tied to two optional events at AT&T Stadium – Rally Day and the Monday night NFL game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Tennes- see Titans. The event was attended by burial vault manufacturers and suppli- ers stretching from Arizona to South Carolina. The meeting agenda in- cluded updates to the plant certification program and roundtable discussions on SILICA/OSHA and mar- ijuana in the workplace. Future educational topics were evaluated and scored with “Graveside Liabili- ties” ranking high on the list of members’ priorities. In addition, accomplish- ments from 2018 and goals for 2019 were covered, and new officers were elected. The executive team for 2019 includes: President: Steve Handley, Handley Pre-cast Systems, Phoenix, AZ; Vice President/Secre- tary: Jeffrey Hardy, Har- dy Doric Inc, Chelmsford MA; and Treasurer: Paul Cooper, Cooper Wilbert Vault, Middletown, DE. Steve Handley, incoming NCBVA president, com- mented, “We plan to have the NCBVA annual meet- ing and a plant tour with exhibitors on Saturday. Then, to allow addition- al networking time, we’ll offer an optional Sunday outing to a Cardinals MLB baseball game too.” The National Concrete Burial Vault Association (NCBVA) was chartered in 1930 as a voluntary non- profit organization of con- crete burial vault manu- facturers throughout the United States and Canada. The purpose of the organi- zation is to provide a uni- fied voice for the concrete burial vault industry, re- gardless of product affili- ation, brand recognition or location. Every major brand affiliation of con- crete vault manufacturer is represented as a member of the organization. The NCBVA represents groups that provide 90 percent of all outer burial receptacles interred within the bound- aries of its membership.
