dent institution and not a
part of any college or uni-
versity; very few indepen-
dent programs are still in
existence. PIMS motto is:
“Scientia, Sollertia, Servi-

PIMS offers several ed-
ucational programs; 12
month diploma, 12 month
Associate in Specialized
Technology degree, a 16
month Associate in Spe-
cialized Business Degree
and a 20 month Associate
in Specialized Business De-
gree – as well as bachelor

Additionally,
PIMS is the first mortuary
program to have a com-
plete distance learning pro-
gram allowing students to
work at home while com-
pleting the program via the
internet. PIMS online pro-
gram has approximately
100 students with gradu-
ates from every state. Over
7,000 men and women
have matriculated through
the various programs at
PIMS during the past 75
years.
During the anniversary
banquet,
M. Roger Walk-
er
was presented a plaque
for 35 years of Distin-
guished Service. PIMS
dean of faculty and stu-
dents,
Dr. Joseph Marsa-
glia,
presented the award
on behalf of the board
of directors, faculty, staff
and students. Walker of-
ficially retired from PIMS
this year. In 1979, Walker
was responsible for initiat-
ing the schools Christmas
Food Drive for the Needy.
Over the years, students
had raised over $10,000 to
make-up an approximate
six-thousand food baskets,
as well as clothing and
toys, for the area needy of
Pittsburgh.
Additionally, a new
scholarship award was an-
nounced at the banquet
to honor PIMS president
and CEO, Ogrodnik and
to recognize his legend-
ary accomplishments that
have truly shaped the fu-
ture of funeral service. The
“Eugene C. Ogrodnik En-
trepreneurial Award” was
announced by PIMS chair-
man of the board,
Fred
Donatelli.
The award will
be presented to recognize
a student graduate who
best exhibits the qualities
of Stewardship, Scholar-
ship, and Leadership and
has earned no less than
an overall 3.0 average and
whose performance has ex-
celled in the business core
curriculum.
