“Bill and I have a complementary skill set for advising

Coastal Paternity, LLC Educates Beaufort Funeral
Homes to Offer DNA Storage
BEAUFORT,SC—
The community funeral home may be the
last chance for many families to preserve their genetic histo-
ry. With certain advances in forensic science, DNA collect-
ed prior to embalming or cremation may be the family’s last
opportunity to authenticate genetic ancestry, settle paternity
issues, or document family medical history.
Coastal Paternity, LLC
co-owners
Denise Drake
RN
and
Olivia Bolin
have begun educating Beaufort funeral
homes, churches, and hospice providers to the importance
of discussing and documenting the conversation with family
members about DNA retrieval, paternity testing and storage
prior to embalming or cremation, stressing the cremation
process destroys all forms of DNA tissue permanently.
Soon DNA retrieval, storage and paternity testing will be
included in many funeral packages to families, along with tra-
ditional embalming, cremation, burial, and casket products.
This new service is being marketed as a way for families of the
deceased to authenticate their genetic ancestries, help predict
the risks of certain diseases, and often settle paternity cases.
More importantly, children of unmarried couples of-
ten labeled by society as being illegitimate, risk losing
heritance if unable to identify a biological link between
the alleged father and child prior to burial or cremation.
In order for a child to be acknowledged as a legal heir to
the estate or any assets of a deceased father, the father’s
name must be added to the child’s birth certificate now
or post-mortem.
Coastal Paternity, LLC has partnered with
DDC/NA
Diagnostic Center Laboratory.
This AABB accredited
facility provides testing for high profile celebrities, busi-
ness professionals, musicians, and athletes. DNA retriev-
al, banking and profiling services allow individuals and
families to store their loved ones DNA sample at a safe,
secure laboratory facility and obtain a record of their ge-
netic profile. The accredited laboratory guarantees that
each tissue sample is collected using the strict chain - of -
custody process, and provides the family with a banking
certificate stating the storage period (up to 15 years). The
laboratory will also safeguard the names of all person(s)
authorized to retrieve and/or use the DNA samples.
Funeral director and staff now have the implied responsibil-
ity to inform families of their options of DNA preservation
