Fountain National Academy’s 2014 Conference
Cosmetic Class at FNA’s International Conference
men and women in this admirable profes-
sion will reach out and touch so many lives.
The biennial conference, themed “Ded-
icated to the Value of Open Casket View-
ing,” focused on teaching the embalmer
how to restore trauma cases from the most
minor to the most extreme. Founder
Ver-
nie Fountain
handpicks top speakers from
the United States and abroad to deliver
highly specialized, technical presentations.
2014 Conference presenters included Jack
Adams,
Steven LaBrash, Don Kellerhall,
Shane Ritchie, Jacquelyn Taylor,
Todd
VanBeck, and Vernie Fountain from the
United States, along with
Glyn Tallon
of
Ireland,
Karl Wenzel
of Canada, and
Alain
Koninckx
of Belgium.
The conference was years in the making,
and was born out of an enthusiasm among
embalmers for specialized education and
networking opportunities. After reviewing
overwhelmingly positive conference eval-
uations from the first conference in 2010,
Fountain decided to make it a biennial
event. The conference continues to focus
on the psychological values associated with
viewing and visitation for family and friends.
The meeting has attracted hundreds of em-
balming professionals from across the Unit-
ed States and the globe. In 2014, embalmers
from six countries and 21 states took part in
the event that provided specific techniques
to deal with embalming issues, case stud-
ies on reconstructing the difficult case, and
personal stories of success from embalmers
who were able to keep the casket open for
viewing the deceased. The conference pro-
vides CEUs for embalmers as well as the op-
portunity to connect with other profession-
als in the field. Other conference highlights
included an opening night reception, a de-
li-style group lunch and a Friday night buf-
fet dinner with a live auction benefitting the
FNA Scholarship Fund.
Plans for the 2016 conference, tentative-
ly scheduled for August 4th-7th in Spring-
field, MO are already underway. Interest-
ed parties are welcome to follow the fun,
the conversation and the photos on Vernie
