Matt Smith
was a keynote
speaker at the Kentucky
midwinter conference in
February in Louisville. Matt
presented his nationally rec-
ognized program “Massive
Trauma - Restoration and
Setting Features - Creating
the Smile.” Matt’s program
was partly sponsored by

The Genesis Group of
Funeral Homes and Cem-
eteries
invited Matt Smith
to be the technical present-
er at this year’s Continu-
ing Education program at
the Elks Club, in April in
Waterloo, IA. Matt’s high
definition, step by step im-
ages are an easy-to-follow
instructional program.
In May, the
Kansas State
Funeral Directors Associa-
tion
brought Matt Smith to
the State Convention as the
expert presenter on “Diffi-
cult Case Embalming, Keep-
ing the Casket Open focus-
ing on Massive Trauma and
Restoration as well as Setting
Features Creating the Smile.”
Matt demonstrated that
even the most traumatic cas-
es can be “seen.” “Do not
simply close the lid,” Smith
said about open casket visi-
tation. “We have the ability
to be the hero of our com-
munities,” he continued.
Matt’s step by step recon-
struction instructions dem-
onstrate that even the first
year licensed embalmer can
keep caskets open. “The
imagination is far more
traumatic than what’s rest-
ing on the pillow,” Smith
elaborated.
Smith also lectured on
the importance of a pleas-
ant expression when setting
features. Smith’s program
demonstrated a simple step
by step technique that en-
sured a pleasant smile on
each deceased. “While hun-
dreds of thousands of dol-
lars are spent trying to fig-
ure out why cremation rates
are rising, I can tell you to
first look at what’s resting
inside the last casket you
sold. Chances are great that
you will see why crema-
tion is on the rise.” Smith
pulls no punches when it
comes to the importance to
how the deceased looks. “I
don’t care about your shiny
hearse or your new carpet
or your vacuumed carpet.
I don’t care that your bath-
room has new wall cov-
ering. Tell me about how
your bodies look.”
Matt has over 20 years
of experience and has em-
balmed over 12,000 cas-
es. His program has been
seen in over 25 states and
overseas. For more infor-
mation on how you can
