Funeral Service Foundation Awards Ten Grants
BROOKFIELD,WI—
The
Funeral Service Foundation
(FSF), the “charitable voice of funeral service,” awarded a
total of 10 grants and 6 scholarships in 2012. These grants
fulfill FSF’s important mission of supporting career and pro-
fessional development, the support of funeral service and al-
lied professions, public awareness and education, and the
improvement of children’s lives.
Support of funeral service education was demonstrated in
2012 with FSF awarding a scholarship to mortuary science
school student

Hagan Memorial Scholarship Fund. In addition, the foun-
dation supported the Meet the Mentors program, gave grants
to the
American Board of Funeral Service Education
,
Cincin-
nati College of Mortuary Science
, and mortuary student
Kelli
Schuette
for her trip to Africa to learn about cultural tradi-
tions in the profession. The Funeral Service Foundation also
granted funds to Purple Star for its public awareness program
to help veterans and their families.
FSF’s Women’s Fund supported professional development
for female funeral service professionals by awarding 5 schol-
arships to

Eliza-
beth Ann Cotter

Laura Lewis
, and
Linda Thrasher
for
the
National Funeral Directors Association’s
2012 Professional
Women’s Conference.
FSF made grants to support the improvement of children’s
lives in 2012. The foundation honored
National Guardian
Life’s
donation and gave to
Comfort Zone Camp
. The founda-
tion granted funds to the
National Alliance for Grieving Chil-
dren
,
Compassionate Friends
,
and
Hospice of North Central
Oklahoma
for their bereave-
ment programs for children.
Career and professional
development was support-
ed by a grant for research
performed by
Olson Zalt-
man Associates
culminating
in Breaking the Consumer
Code.
In total, the Funeral Ser-
vice Foundation was able
to grant $155,500 in grants
and scholarships in 2012.
The Funeral Service Foun-
dation is a national pub-
lic grant making organiza-
tion that provides resources
for career and professional
development, the support
of funeral service and allied
professions, public aware-
ness and education, and the
improvement of children’s
lives. An 18-member Board
of Trustees representing
both funeral directors and
allied professions oversees activities.
