BARBARA F. HESTON of Huron Township, MI died December 5, 2023 at the age of 80. She was president and a third-generation owner of Michigan’s largest privately-owned cemetery, Michigan Memorial Park. She was a long-time member of ICCFA, the Michigan Cemetery Association, and was a past president of PAA (PreArrangement Association). CHARLES R. “RICK” LANIER JR of Lakeland, FL died December 15, 2023 at the age of 74. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer at Lanier Funeral and Cremation Services. Rick earned his degree in mortuary science from the Miami Dade College and was a past president of the Polk County Funeral Directors Association. OLIVER DOYLE LOWE JR of Bossier City, LA died December 21, 2023 at the age of 90. He attended embalming school in Dallas and his career as a funeral director spanned fifty years. Lowe was also a certified grief counselor who specialized in bereavement counseling for parents who had lost a child. He received the Funeral Director of the Year award from the North Louisiana Funeral Directors Association in 1988. HARRY MELVIN MONROE of Ottumwa, IA died December 16, 2023 at the age of 95. In 1956 he began working for Johnson Funeral Chapel as a funeral director, serving for over 35 years. In his retirement, Monroe continued to work for local funeral homes. He was a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association. DEAN MICHAEL PARKER of Carrollton, GA died January 4, 2024 at the age of 77. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Dean pursued his passion for mortuary science. earning an Associate degree in Mortuary Science. He was a funeral director and embalmer with Almon Funeral Home. ROBERT STEPHEN RAE of York, PA died December 15, 2023 at the age of 65. A licensed funeral director, he was a trailblazer in the funeral insurance industry, having served as the founder of Golden Considerations, Inc., which earned national recognition. RICHARD A. “DICK” SIMPSON of Northumberland, PA died December 18, 2023 at the age of 76. A licensed funeral director, he was employed for many years and was currently with the Zweier Funeral Home and Blank Funeral Home of Sunbury and the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home in Northumberland. A 1971 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, Dick had previously served as a Northumberland County deputy coroner. BERT R. TOMON of Parma Heights, OH died December 25, 2023 at the age of 81. A Cleveland area funeral director, he was past president of the Cuyahoga Funeral Directors Association. LENORA T. WISEMAN of Fayetteville, NC died Friday December 29, 2023 at the age of 89. Along with her late husband, Walter L. Wiseman, she operated the Wiseman Mortuary, receiving her funeral directors license on April 11, 1972. WALTER EDWARD “WALLY” MARTENS JR of Cleveland, OH died January 7, 2024 at the age of 78. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 50 years, having owned and operated the Walter Martens and Sons Funeral Home as second-generation. In 2023, Wally and his wife, Victoria closed their location and partnered with Charles Slone to operate the Walter Martens and Sons Funeral Home at Slone and Company Funeral Directors. A 1968 graduate of the Pittseration to work and own Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, working with his father, Gordon until his death in 1984 and his daughter, Kathleen, since 1981.
