As you probably know, Packard was a luxury automobile manufacturer. The first Packard was built in 1899 and the last in 1958. There are two eras of cars that I love the most, the Big Fender Era and the Art Deco/Chrome/Tailfin Era. These roughly are the 1930s and 1950s, respectively. Here is my era breakdown for reference: • Utilitarian Era – This era is from onset of the first au- tomobile manufactured, to the late teens. They were simply designed to get you from one place to another. • Comfort Era – Roughly the 1920s and is an era I de- scribe as somewhat Utilitarian, but comfort features start to be included • Big Fenders Era – Roughly 1930s this is characterized by big fenders, external headlights, running boards and divan comfort. If you have ever sat in one of these cars you know what I mean by divan comfort. • Rounded Era – Mid 1940s when fenders became part of the body, comfort became secondary and aerody- namics became more important • Art Deco/Chrome/Tail Fins Era – Mid 1950s to early 1960s, you just need to look at the pictures of these cars if you have any questions about the era name. • Muscle Era - Mid 60s to early 1970s, most every car model offered an over-the-top big engine, even many of the economical and family models. The years associated with these eras are obviously approx- Mike Jamar is founder and co-owner of Advanced Integration Technology. This only includes the vehicles built for the general public. There were exot- ics built in every era, but for the most part these were built for the rich and in limited quantities, so they do not fit in any era. I do not have any newer eras, as the cars built from the mid- 1970s to now have not excited me to this point. Let’s get back to the 1939 Packard-Henney. This was built during the last days of the Big Fenders era. The last years are almost always the best, because they have taken that era, and features of that era, just about as far as they can go. This Pack- ard is no exception. If you have an opportunity, please go to HearseHub.com and look up this hearse. It is an excellent example of the Big Finder Era. It has big fenders, one with a fully enclosed spare tire, running boards, external headlights, and the piece-de-re- sistance, the hood ornament. It is priced at $45,000, which is very reasonable, for what you are getting. The buyer will be literally buying a piece of automotive history, because there are so few of these models left. Today a new SUV is often this much and more. Plus, in five years the value for the SUV will be half to a third of its purchase value. Worst case scenario for this vehicle is it will be worth $45,000, but most likely it will be worth much more. I have no vested interest in this car, I am just excited to have a car of this caliber and historical perspective being advertised on HearseHub. 1939 Packard-Henney Hearse DESIGN l PRODUCTS l VENTILATION 7 2 0 . 5 8 3 . 1 8 8 6 l V I S I T OU R I D E A G A L L E RY l D U N C A N S T UA R T TOD D . Mopec appoints New Government Sales and Contracts Manager; Teams with ACELA Richard Leach MADISON HEIGHTS,MI— Mopec has announced the appointment of Richard Leach as government sales and contracts manager. The company has also introduced a new program which makes refrigerated morgue trailers available on a rental basis. Leach will help further grow Mopec’s government sales re- lationships and contracts, which will allow American local, state and federal agencies to secure critical products and ser- vices through a reliable private sector partner. Leach has more than 35 years’ experience managing United States government contracts and compliance. Fo- cused on providing innovative solutions that meet and exceed customer expectations, he has a proven reputation for ensuring that agency needs are met while assuring full compliance with all applicable regulations. “We believe that Mopec’s offerings are more relevant than ever to government agencies, which need to be fully prepared for ongoing and future emergencies,” said Jay Troger, CEO of Mopec. “These agencies need to be con- fident that they are buying the best United States pro- duced products and also that their providers are strin- gently meeting all government contracting requirements. Richard has deep experience in government contracting and will instill confidence in our government customers.” Mopec Guardian Systems prod- ucts offer a wide range of capital and personal protective equip- ment (PPE) that enable institu- tions to be fully prepared for pan- demics, mass fatalities and other emergency events. These products include body storage solutions, body bags, PAPR’s and PPE. Mopec is teaming with Acela Truck Company, a seasoned spe- cialty vehicle manufacturer that brings over 100 years of com- bined experience in the automotive industry to the commer- cial and emergency management markets. “We know that there are many organizations that do not want to own mobile morgue trailers, but they have a short- term need associated with COVID-19 or other emergen- cies. This rental program provides the perfect solution for them,” said Kirk Gossett, Mopec’s vice president of Sales. Custom-built 53-foot refrigerated trailers, fully equipped with storage for up to 84 decedents and an electric lift are available to rent on a monthly or longer basis. The service is turnkey: the rental trailers will be delivered to the customer, serviced, picked up and decontaminated at the conclusion of the rental. “Acela has deep knowledge and experience in the specialty truck and trailer business, particularly with refrigerated and emergency and disaster response vehicles of all types,” said Da- vid Ronsen, president of Acela Truck Company. “We quickly saw the value in working with Mopec. Their expertise in the proper handling of decedents combined with trailers designed to provide safe working environments for medical personnel enhances the value we bring to our customers collectively.” “During the past few months of the coronavirus pandem- ic, many institutions learned that you need more than just an empty refrigerated trailer to properly handle surges in de- cedents,” said Troger. “We utilize our long experience in this area to ensure that health workers are kept safe through the body-handling process, and decedents are handled with the respect that they deserve. We are proud to be working with Acela to bring this service to those on the front lines.” Mopec, based in Madison Heights, Michigan, is a manu- facturer and distributor of high-quality pathology, anatomy, mortuary, and necropsy equipment and products.
