They knocked out a wall and ex- tended the chapel to make it larger and ca- pable of seating up to 500 people. “I want to capture that network of people that doesn’t have a regular church,” says Davis. Many churches won’t allow funeral servic- es unless you are a member of the church, so Davis seeks to accommodate everyone in her chapel. There is now a four-car ga- rage to house the hearses and other ve- hicles. She also had the embalming and dressing room moved to the main level, so it’s more convenient for everyone. While she aims to expand to the entire block, she is proud to currently possess half of it for her funeral home. “My goal right now is to just make it convenient for when I’m off the scene. Whoever takes it over, it’s going to be convenient,” she says, adding that everything - embalming, services, and cremation, both pet and human - are all in one facility and a repast facility. “I’ve been in this for 20 years,” says Da- vis. “What I do for one family, I do for all, even if they don’t have money.” Ruby Funeral Services & Chapel doesn’t turn down anyone for services. Not everybody has insurance and not everyone can afford to pay full price. Davis says if a family calls her funeral home, she’s not going to ask about money. “I’ll pick you up, and we’ll work something out.” She accommodates everyone, whether they pay $10,000 or $5,000, they’re going to have a great ser- vice. “Everyone gets the same thing.” Yes, they’ll still get programs and sign-in books, family blanket, etc. even if they can’t afford to pay full price. And cremations go in an urn, not a plastic bag or paper box. “It balances out. The families that can af- ford to pay full price are helping out with the families that cannot. I am just a strong believe that you get back what you put out. I don’t look at it as a get rich quick scheme. I want to keep a good name. I do it by treating everyone the same,” she says. “My funeral home stands out because peo- ple in the community know what they’re going to get.” Every year, Davis says she’s willing and able to give away two to three funerals. “It’s going to happen. Some fam- ilies just don’t have the money. So, I do that for them.” Davis doesn’t do payment plans and doesn’t call people to remind them that they owe her. And she doesn’t turn people away. “I can’t have that on my conscious. I’ve been poor my whole life, living in and out shelters for many years of my life, and I know what it’s like. It can’t always be about the money.” Learn more about Ruby Funeral Services & Chapel at www.drrubydavisfuneralhome.com. Ruby Funeral Services Continued from Front Page ness. And God has done the rest.” Davis says her first two months of opera- tion put her on track for a successful year. She stresses that she and her employ- ees strive to accommodate all families with any bud- get. “Everyone deserves a going-home celebration,” she says. The funeral home only sat 200 people and had no garage for the vehi- cles. Also, the embalming area was in the basement, which caused transpor- tation issues, particular- ly in the winter when it snowed. Davis envisioned a larger chapel with seat- ing for at least 500 peo- ple, and she wanted to ex- pand into the neighboring properties until she owned the entire block for park- ing and additional space. By 2019, the home was more in line with Davis’s WILLOW STREET,PA— On August 16, Charles F. Snyder Funeral Homes & Crematory broke ground on their new project, a sixth funeral home location and third crematory in Willow Street, PA.
