There really isn’t a way to stop that. But at least their comments won’t show up on your funeral home or cemetery’s Facebook page. *Names and specifics have been changed to protect the family’s confidentiality. comment. Her comments questioned our integrity, our honor, and our mother’s marital status at the time of our birth. Ouch. So it was time to ban Aunt June from our Facebook page. So how did we do that? Here’s a step-by-step process to ban someone from your business Facebook page. You can also watch a video with a screen recording of how I do this at: www.JasonTroyer.com and select “Facebook School” from the menu. Step 1: Note the name of the person who you would like to ban. Be sure to write down exactly how their name is listed on their Facebook comment/account. Step 2: Using a desktop computer, go to your business’s Facebook page. Step 3: In the upper right corner, click on “Settings”. Step 4: Look at the menu on the left side. Click on “People and Other Pages” which is the 9th option. Step 5: On the right half of the page, there will be a pull down menu that says, “PeopleWho Like This Page”. Click on this once and select “Banned People and Pages”. This will bring up a list of people and pages who have previously been banned from your Facebook Page Step 6: Click on “+ Ban a Person” and then type in their name exactly as it appears on their comment or Facebook Account. (See step 1) And then click “Save” This will ban the person from interacting or commenting on your Facebook page. She was literally complaining about getting something for free – and then it got ugly. So I had to block her from our Facebook page. Unfortunately Grandpa Joe* died and the family was having difficulty paying for cemetery space. Thankfully, another family member offered to contribute a plot in the same cemetery that was already paid for. Everyone around the table agreed that this was a fantastic solu- tion. Grandpa Joe’s services could proceed and he would be buried in a lovely setting. Excellent! Problem solved! Right! Right? It seems that half of the troubling stories I hear from funeral and cemetery professionals start with, “And then an extended family member flew into town …” Well that’s what happened here. Let’s call her Aunt June. Aunt June was not at the original meeting and she want- ed a very specific type of grave marker. Unfortunately, that type of marker was not allowed in the section of the donated plot. To use Aunt June’s preferred marker, the family would have to pay for a plot in another portion of the cemetery that was more expensive. We gently and carefully explained the situation to Aunt June. You can either use the plot that was donated with no additional charge OR you can purchase a plot so you can have the exact marker you want. Needless to say, Aunt June was not happy with either option. In fact she was so unhappy, she decided that she need- ed to tell everyone on our Facebook page about it.
