Slated for completion in June 2023, the one-story facility is being built just east of Greenwood’s iconic statue of four bronze horses and gateway to its 196-acre property, which opened 113 years ago in 1909. The unique and first-of-its-kind Greenwood Remembrance Center was designed specifically to host a variety of gatherings, including friends and family visitations, formal and informal services, and other meetings of remembrance. Included in the project scope are four family viewing staterooms, each with its own landscaped courtyard, as well as a floral shop, gallery, public lounge, catering facilities, and a spacious inviting lobby surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Contemporary in its appearance while evoking a sense of calm, dignity, and solidity, the Greenwood Remembrance Center will have an exterior composed of brick, stone, aluminum, and sloping glass. Its entrance will feature a stately circular drive, creating a welcoming atmosphere while allowing for fluidity when entering and leaving the facility, as well as wide sidewalks and ample surface parking. Other project features include 15-to20-foot ceilings, built-in audio/visual technologies, structural steel roof framing, extended exterior wall heights to screen mechanical equipment, and stateof-the-art mechanical air handling systems designed to accommodate extreme winds and summer heat. In addition, a sustainable landscape design will be implemented throughout with drought-tolGreenwood Breaks Ground for Remembrance Center erant trees, native shrubs, grasses, and water-conservation technologies. The new Greenwood Remembrance Center marks the second Greenwood facility built by Speed Fab-Crete. In 2020, Speed Fab-Crete built its 5,667-squarefoot Advance Planning Center, which was recently honored with a National Merit Award by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). Dallas-based JST Architects, which specializes in design services for the death care industry, is serving as the project’s architectural and design partner.
