Working as a team with two biochem- istry professors, a former Ball Aero- space system engineer, and inventors and manufacturers of a high-pressure al- kaline hydrolysis, the FC500 was born. The FC500 is faster, safer, easier to op- erate and less costly than other alkaline hydrolysis systems. Though it is priced competitively with petrochemical cre- matories, it has the unique advantage of being able to offer families sustainable funeral options and favorable treatment from air quality regulators. The FC500 is “more like a stainless steel bathtub,” says Gazvoda. It operates at a temperature of 165 ℉ , completes the dissolution in less than three hours, there is no tipping, and nothing goes down the sewer. “Once dissolution is done, the acid brings the pH down to neutral, so the es- sence is useful for the earth,” says Gazvo- da. The essence together with the pulver- ized bones can be given to the family for a burial or donated to a farm for use as a plant biostimulant. “The nutrients go back into the earth,” he says. The Fireless Cremation system uses its patent pending wave motion technol- ogy, to expedite the process. There are no tissues remaining after the process is complete, which means the essence is sterile, which was not the case with his 2010 system. “With Fireless Cremation, you get 100% of the body back. You can bury them in a cemetery or your yard. You can put them back into the earth,” says Gaz- voda. With traditional cremation, you only get back a portion of the person’s bones, commingled. Cremation results in up to five pounds of ashes, but with Fireless Cremation, you get six to twelve pounds of bones and about 25 gallons of essence returned in 5 gallon “plaskets.” Ed Gazvoda demonstrates body placement in the FC500 System Ed Gazvoda (center) and Fireless Cremation is awarded a check after winning Denver’s Pitch Competition Fireless Cremation: New Funeral Options Continued from Page B1 dent into the sewer, and required loading the body into a basket. There were 159 companies in the compe- tition, with many high tech and software businesses. “I didn’t think something re- lating to death would make it to the first round,” says Gazvoda. Fireless Crema- tion made it to the top 20, then to the fi- nal 5, before being declared the winner. “I was surprised,” he says. “But it just goes to show you that in a city like Denver that has a brown cloud above the city year-round from air pollution, people get it.” “Fireless Cremation is the smoke-free way to go,” says Gazvoda. The agriculture industry and laboratories use alkaline hydrolysis to de- stroy viruses, bacteria, and prions. In 2008 , Ed Gazvoda, President of Fireless Cremation, read about an alkaline hydrolysis system based on the in- vention of medical professors. The high-temperature sys- tem took 6-8 hours per cycle and cost over $500,000. Given the long cycle time, danger inherent in operating a high-pressure system, and cost, he decided to create a system of his own. In 2010, his former alkaline hydroly- sis company sold the first alkaline hydrolysis system to a United States funeral director. The system took 18+ hours, resembled a cannon, tipped upwards, often failed to complete the dissolution, emptied 98% of the dece- Bright White Paper Co upgrades Website Individually Created Cap Panel Printing an Outdoor Funeral Banner ily find information on the color poster maker machine, the Ed Pro Color Poster Maker by EPSON, and learn the variety of ways you can add to your business.
