Berna succeeds Kenny Culpepper of Griffin-Culpepper Funer- al Service of McGehee as president of ADFA, which works across the state to maintain the funeral in- dustry’s highest standards of excellence and service. Berna is a Van Buren na- tive who started in the fu- neral profession in high school at Edwards-Fen- tress Funeral Homes of Van Buren and Fort Smith. He earned his funeral di- rectors’ license in 1985. He managed funeral homes and cemeteries inTexas and Oklahoma before return- ing to his native Arkansas in 1999 to manage then- Nelson’s Funeral Home and Crematory and Fair- view Memorial Gardens. Robert Kaelin of Moore’s Chapel Funeral Home in Fayetteville has been elect- ed as an officer on the Ar- kansas Funeral Directors Association board of direc- tors. Kaelin took over his role as treasurer of the as- sociation during AFDA’s board meeting in Little Rock. Kaelin is the manager at Moore’s Chapel, and he has worked for a number of funeral homes across Arkansas, including Grif- fin Leggett Healy and Roth in Little Rock and Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith. He is a graduate of the Dallas Institute of Fu- neral Service, and he re- ceived his embalmers and funeral director’s licens- es in 1990. Kaelin and his wife, Tammy, have three children. AFDA’s 2021 officers in- clude: Scott Berna of Ber- na Funeral Homes of Fayetteville, president; La- donna Smith of Davis- Smith Funeral Home of Glenwood, president elect; Ciley Castillo of Pow- ell Funeral Home of Bald Knob, vice-president; Da- vid Tucker of Roller-Swift Funeral Home of Osceola, secretary; Tom Compton of Roller Funeral Homes in Little Rock, policy board representative; and Kenny Culpepper of Grif- fin-Culpepper Funeral Ser- vice of McGehee as past president. News Association ICCFA Virtual Convention Winners The ICCFA 2021 Annual Con- vention & Exposition was held vir- tually May 17-21, 2021. Attendees enjoyed five days of virtual pro- gramming, networking and an in- teractive exhibit hall. Each day started with a keynote speaker, fol- lowed by educational sessions, des- ignated Expo Floor hours, Sup- plier Showcases, and ended with a lighthearted, fun session. Attendees could also interact with one another in the community forum and par- ticipate in the passport contest by visiting with multiple exhibitors. Winners of the convention’s Expo Passport Contest are first place Heather Welborn of Cloverdale Funeral Home & Memorial Park; second place Marcia Bernhardt of Cress Funeral & Cremation Service; and third place Melissa O’Halloran of Newcomer Funeral Service Group. Attendees had the opportunity to register for prizes at the Nomis Publications booth. Winners were Scott Fowler of J F Floyd Mor- tuary; Stacy Adams of Memori- al Park Funeral Home and Cem- etery; Marcia Bernhardt of Cress Funeral & Cremation Service and Chris Cooke of Evansville City Cemeteries. Plans are underway for Las Vegas next year. The ICCFA Annual Con- vention and Exposition is scheduled for March 22-25, 2022 at the Man- dalay Bay Resort & Casino.
