A funeral director for fifty years, he began his career with K.D. Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston before working at the Rose-Neath Funeral Homes until his retirement. He graduated from the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service. MARJORIE “MARGIE” COLSON of Indianapolis, IN passed away on March 29, 2022 at the age of 74. She entered the funeral industry by establishing a third party marketing company representing funeral homes. In 2014, she and her husband, Tony Colson, purchased Harper’s Community Funeral Home near Ft. Wayne, IN and in 2017 they purchased Halo International in Twinsburg, OH. JAMES R. “JIM” FORNOFF of Greenfield, IN died March 24, 2022 at the age of 79. He worked as a funeral director at Pasco Memorial Mortuary for many years. A 1965 graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association and the Independent Selected Funeral Directors. NINA GREENE of Alexandria, VA died March 24, 2022 at the age of 54. She has worked within Greene Funeral Home, Inc on and off for over twenty-five years. Nina was currently serving as a funeral service assistant, where she provided administrative support and was instrumental in helping families with memorial tributes and life insurance. CRAIG F. “DIGGER” HOFFMAN of Defiance, OH died March 11, 2022 at the age of 76. A retired funeral director and embalmer, he was a partner in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home Inc. Digger retired in 2006. A graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, he was a past president of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. EUGENE “GENE” SAUL LEDGER of Sulphur, LA died March 30, 2022 at the age of 77. He worked for HixsonFuneral Home as a funeral director since 1970. FREDERICKCHARLESLOCKE of Wilmington, NC died March 24, 2022 at the age of 87. A longtime funeral director, he was the owner and operator of Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo, IA until his retirement. MICHAEL A. PATRY of Lyme, formerly of Berlin and Gorham, NH died March 14, 2022 at the age of 65. He worked alongside his father as a funeral director at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home from 1981-2006. A 1984 graduate of the New England Institute of Mortuary Science, Patry was a member of the New Hampshire Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. JOHN CHARLES RILES of Vicksburg, MS died March 30, 2022 at the age of 75. A longtime funeral director, he was the former owner and operator of Charles Riles Funeral Home, which later merged with the Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home to form FisherRiles Funeral Homes. PHILLIP SHORT of Marlborough, MA died March 14, 2022 at the age of 48. A funeral director, he joined his father, William Short, in operating the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, taking over the business upon his father’s passing in 2012. In 2019, Short purchased the John P. Rowe Funeral Home, expanding and renaming it the Short and Rowe Funeral Home. PETER A. STEFAN of Worcester, MA died at the age of 85. A first-generation funeral director, he was president of the Graham Putnam and Mahoney Funeral Home. Stefan was a member of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association. JONATHAN FRANK STEGURA of Nanticoke, PA died March 11, 2022 at the age of 75. He was the owner and funeral director supervisor of Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home Inc. A 1980 graduate of the Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science, he was a past president of the Luzerne County Funeral Directors Association. JOHN JOSEPH WHITAKER of Cloverdale, IN died March 24, 2022 at the age of 81. A funeral director, he worked with his father, Charles at the Whitaker Funeral Home for many years. Whitaker was active in the Independent Funeral Directors of Indiana for many years, serving on the board as president and other various positions until his retirement. he was the previous owner of Williams Funeral Home in Cedarville; Ingling Williams Funeral Home in South Charleston and Jackson; and Lytle & InglingWilliams Funeral Homes in Springfield and Yellow Springs. Williams was a member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. B. JACKWILLIAMS of Bremen, OH died March 13, 2022 at the age of 79. A retired funeral director for over thirty years, of the Arkansas Funeral Directors Association and was a recipient of the Funeral Director of the Year Award in 2002. Wasson was inducted into the Arkansas Funeral Director’s Hall of Fame in 2013, was also a past chair of the Arkansas State Burial Association board for many years and was also a long-time member of the board of directors for the Selected Funeral and Life Insurance Company. ROBERT “BOB” GRAY WASSON of Siloam Springs, AR died March 19, 2022 at the age of 87. He worked at Wasson Funeral Home with his parents, and since 1974 has owned and operated the business. A graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, he was a past president In 1966 Strode started what was Strode Lyons Funeral Home. It then became Strode Funeral Home, where he served the Monroe County Community for 52 years. Strode was elected as the Monroe County Coroner for 29 years. He served on the Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers for the State of Kentucky and was president of the Funeral Directors Association of Kentucky. CHARLES E. STRODE of Tompkinsville, KY died March 21, 2022 at the age of 83. A Kentucky licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1959, he began his career at the John Edd Yokley Funeral Home in the early 1960’s. sity of Minnesota. He served as a policy board member of the National Funeral Directors Association, was president of the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association in 2002-2003 and served as its chairman of the legislative committee at the time of his passing. Bill had served a five-year term on the Board of Examiners, Funeral Directors and Embalmers. WILLIAM “BILL” J. LAUBER of Milford, NE died March 17, 2022 at the age of 59. He purchased the Moore’s Funeral Homes of Friend, Milford and Beaver Crossing in 1992. In 2018, he opened Blue Valley Crematory as an addition to Lauber Funeral Homes. Bill graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in mortuary science from the Univernow the International Cemetery, Cremation & Funeral Association and the Interment Association of California, now the Cemetery and Mortuary Association of California. He also authored three books, A Cemetery Should be Forever, Saying Goodbye Your Way, and the Birth of a Cemetery. JOHN F. LLEWELLYN of Glendale, CA died April 6, 2022. He was chairman of the board of directors for Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks and Mortuaries. Llewellyn served as president of the American Cemetery Association, ter he purchased the Harold A. Famous Funeral Home which was later renamed the Boyd Funeral Home. Boyd and his son Robert served their community until 2006, when they merged with DellaVecchia, Reilly and Smith Funeral Home. He graduated from the Eckels College of Mortuary Science. JOSEPH E. BOYD JR of West Chester, PA died March 10, 2022 at the age of 90. He began his funeral career with his uncle at the Boyd Funeral Home in Norristown, PA. Boyd relocated to West Chester and shortly thereafHome in Union, Wm. S. Broyles Funeral Home in Peterstown, Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill and in 1994, Bob and his wife Carol established the Groves Funeral Home in Union, where he worked until his retirement. Groves graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1974. ROBERT L. “BOB” GROVES of Union, WV died March 26, 2022 at the age of 69. A funeral director and embalmer, he worked at the Broyles-McGuire Funeral governor of National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, on the Scholarship Committee as president of Virginia Morticians Association, as well as chairman of the board. Nelson was a founding member of Northern Virginia District of the Virginia Morticians Association and was a member of the American Society of Embalmers. NELSON E. GREENE JR of Alexandria, VA died March 14, 2022 at the age of 79. A licensed Virginia funeral director, he held courtesy cards in Maryland and the District of Columbia and was a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner. Nelson was the owner, president and manager of record for the Green Funeral Home, Inc. A graduate of the John Tyler Community College, he previously served as an adjunct professor in the mortuary science program at the University of the District of Columbia and served as national president of Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity.
