Phenomenal Women in Leadership 100 Black Women of Funeral Service 2022-2023 Women in Leadership Spotlight Ross Mortuary in Houston, TX was established by the late Burnett and Helene Ross in 1938. Following in her parents’ footsteps, Burnell Elane Ross Loche, earned her funeral directors and mortician’s licenses from the Commonwealth Institute of Mortuary Science and became president of the firm. Her husband, Edward Loche Sr also shared common interest in the funeral industry. Edwina Loche Barrett represents the third generation of this family-owned establishment. She began working part-time in the firm at the age of fifteen before completing her certificate in funeral directing from her parents’ alma mater and obtaining her license from the Texas Funeral Service board. Edwina is also a licensed Texas insurance agent. Now in her fourteenth year as a financial administrator, Edwina finds that those same lessons taught to her by her grandparents and parents hold true today, remain professional, search for resolve, show compassion and seek understanding. She believes that practicing these behaviors are recipe for maintaining success in any career. Edwina is very fortunate to have her brother, Ed to back her in this great venture as he is also a licensed funeral professional and contributes to the family business.
