And he called them back in two days and secured the remains. “I went 62 days without a day off,” Rizzotto says. He would go in at 8:00 AM or whenever he was needed and work until 1:00 in the morning. He likens the time period to the movie Groundhog’s Day. “Everything was the same, over and over again.” Botti says of Rizzotto, “For some- one like myself who has just begun my journey of one day becoming a funer- al director, I was truly inspired to see the hard work and dedication from Mr. Rizzotto, someone I consider my men- tor. I have learned so much from him during this time, and his dedication to his craft throughout this year was noth- ing short of incredible.” The community showed immense support for its funeral home, as well. People in the neighborhood sent gift baskets and baskets of food. “They knew we were there and didn’t have time to do anything. They were appre- ciative,” says Rizzotto. Even within SCI, other funeral homes within the country were sending care packages and words of encouragement, thanking Cusimano & Russo Funeral Home for everything they did. “It was really nice to be appreciated by other people and our peers,” says Riz- zotto.
