As I have worked with colleagues across the country, it is apparent we are an evolving group that needs definition, credentials and edu- cation in order that we have value to the consumer. We need to promote the importance of our knowledge and what we do and hold onto it in order to meet the changing needs of the consumer. We need to evolve with society.” Clarence R. “C.R.” Lyons of C.R. Lyons & Sons Fu- neral Directors in Danvers was recognized for his service as President. Lyons, who was initially elected MFDA Pres- ident for the 2019-2020 term, was asked by the MFDA Board of Directors to continue in the role for the 2020-21 term to ensure consistent leadership and advocacy through the uncertainty of the COVID-19 public health crisis. In October 2021 Lyons was recognized by the Nation- al Funeral Directors Association for his service during his term as MFDA President and was appointed to NFDA’s Leadership Development Committee. Lyons is a fourth-generation funeral director. In addition to leading his own business during the pandemic, he also worked tirelessly as an advocate, leader and spokesman on behalf of his Massachusetts colleagues. He was honored at the event with a resolution passed unanimously to recog- nize him for his outstanding leadership. Lyons continues to serve on the MFDA Executive Committee and Board of Directors in the role of Immediate Past President. Funeral Directors and establishments celebrating licensing and business anniversaries were honored during the event. • 35 Years of licensure Mary Aveni, Cartmell-Davis Fu- neral Home in Plymouth; Kathleen Doran Boyle, Acton Funeral Home in Acton; J.
