BOND of Londonderry, OH died September 30, 2022 at the age of 83. A funeral director, she was the owner and operator of Bond Funeral Home. Bond served on the board of directors of Eastern Ohio Mutual Life Insurance Company, as well as president. She was a past president and secretary/ treasurer of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association District 12. JACKDENVERDAVIS of South Webster, OH died October 2, 2022 at the age of 82. A funeral director and embalmer, he was the former owner and operator of D. W. Davis Funeral Home in South Webster. A graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. EDWARD PUTNAM DEWAR of Traverse City, MI died September 27, 2022 at the age of 80. He was a licensed funeral director in the greater Detroit area for over twenty-six years. WILLIAM “SAMMIE” NAPIER of Graniteville, SCdied September 30, 2022 at the age of 82. A funeral director for sixty-three years, he worked alongside his wife, Glenda in owning and operating the Napier Funeral Home in Graniteville. Napier was a member of the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. 67. A licensed funeral director, he worked for various funeral homes in the New Castle area and most recently retired from the Readshaw Funeral Home, Inc in Pittsburgh. A graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, Garvin was a member of the Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association. CHARLES “SMOKEY” GARVIN of Pittsburgh and New Castle, PA died October 1, 2022 at the age of a third location in Lancaster, TX in 1999. Beckwith Golden Gate Funeral Home was established in Tallulah, LA in 2001 and is one of the fastest growing African American funeral homes in North Louisiana. In 2012, Beckwith was honored by the Independent Funeral Directors Association of Texas, Inc as the Professional of the Year. DR. JOHN E. BECKWITH SR of Dallas, TX died September 5, 2022 at the age of 80. He worked in the funeral industry for over sixty-five years, having served Lone Star Funeral Home and Cedar Crest Funeral Home prior to establishing the Golden Gate Funeral Home in Waxahachie, TX in 1980. A second location in Dallas, TX was opened in 1985, which is the corporate location and en years, he and his wife, Bette purchased the former Schwartz Funeral Home in 1965 and operated Nickel Funeral Home until the establishment was sold in 2017. A graduate of the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association and the Fox River Valley Funeral Directors Association. ROBERT “BOB” ALWIN NICKEL Morrison, WI died September 25, 2022 at the age of 88. A Wisconsin licensed funeral director and embalmer for sixty-sevfrom 1980 to the early 1990s, he worked at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home before finding employment with the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo, MN. Zabel graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in mortuary science 1977. MIKE ROBERT ZABEL of Sacred Heart, MN died September 1, 2022 at the age of 67. A funeral director ter-in-law, Helen acquired the Edward T. Reid Home for Funerals in 2008 and operates it as the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home. A 1957 graduate of the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, he was a member of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association and the Essex, Union & West Hudson Funeral Directors Association. PHILIP H. “CAPPY” THIELE of Kearny, NJ died September 25, 2022 at the age of 90. His career in funeral service spanned seventy years, having served his apprenticeship at the John D. Crane & Sons Funeral Home. In 1966, the Crane family sold the business to Thiele and his wife, Joan, where they continued to operate the funeral home for forty-two years. His son, Steven and daughfuneral director for over forty years, he joined his family’s business, J. Henry Stuhr, Inc in 1980, representing the fifth generation. A graduate of the Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association. WILLIAM SANDERSON “SANDY” STUHR JR of Charleston, SC died September 4, 2022 at the age of 63. A lanta, GA area. Strickland and Ronnie Waters opened Thompson-Strickland Waters Funeral Home in 1981. He remained a funeral director and manager of the business after it was sold in 1992. A Screven County coroner from 1990-2022, he graduated cum laude from the Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1973. JAMES MAX STRICKLAND of Sylvania, GA died September 26, 2022 at the age of 73. He began working for Hall Funeral Home in Royston, GA at the age of fifteen and later served several funeral homes throughout the Attional Catholic Cemetery Conference, Kun served as president of Catholic Cemeteries of Ohio and served on the Ohio Cemetery Dispute Resolution Commission, appointed by the governor. He served as the Midwest director of the National Catholic Cemetery Conference from 2012 – 2014 and earned the title of Certified Catholic Cemetery Executive. JOSEPH S. KUN, JR of Boardman, OH died September 22, 2022 at the age of 65. He worked for the Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Youngstown for 42 years and retired as the director in 2016. A member of the Nafull. They operated the business together until Taylor’s retirement in 1976 when Hasler became president and sole owner. Delmar remained part of the business until his long-time employees purchased it in 2004. A 1948 graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary Science, he served two terms as Greene County Coroner. DELMAR CHARLES HASLER of Linton, IN died September 10, 2022 at the age of 96. A licensed funeral director for seventy-four years, he began his career at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home and was a stockholder in the company from 1955 until 1965, when he and his business partner, Marvin Taylor, purchased the business in DONALD WILLIAM “BILL” TETRICK Elizabethton, TN died October 7, 2022 at the age of 78. He owned and operated Happy Valley Memorial Park since 1980. Beckwith Mortuary in Larned, managed both Culbertson Mortuary and Lakeview Mortuary of Wichita, and was manager and vice president of Resthaven Mortuary and Cemetery in Wichita. A 1957 graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the Greenlawn Cemetery board and a past president of the Kansas Funeral Directors Association. JERRY KENT LARRISON of Pratt, KS died October 7, 2022 at the age of 86. In 1978, Jerry and his wife, Karellen, purchased Williams Mortuary renaming it Larrison Mortuary. They later purchased Foulk Funeral Home in Turon, Forsyth Funeral Home in Medicine Lodge and Ayres Calbeck Mortuary in Pratt. FRANK DAVID CLAYBAR of Orange, TX died October 6, 2022 at the age of 74. A licensed funeral director and embalmer, he served as president and chief operating manager of Claybar Funeral Home for several years during the 1960’s and 1970’s. PATRICIA “PAT” MOORE of Wayne, NJ died October 8, 2022 at the age of 66. A licensed funeral director and embalmer, she worked alongside her husband, Robert Cowell Moore IV, at their family-owned business, Moore’s Home for Funerals in Wayne for more than thirty-five years, where she eventually became a co-owner.
