Connecticut FDA Veterans by the Connecticut Depart- ment of Veterans Affairs in coordination with the Con- necticut Funeral Directors Association (CFDA). The collaborative project began in 2009 when the State es- tablished the nation’s first protocols to identify un- claimed cremated remains of honorably discharged U.S. veterans in Connect- icut’s funeral homes with the goal of providing them a dignified burial with full military honors. The day began with a pro- cession of hearses led by Po- lice and the Connecticut Continued from Front Page Patriot Guard Riders that traveled from the Veterans Affairs Campus in Rocky Hill to the Connecticut Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. All eight veterans were also presented with Posthumous Connecticut Veterans Wartime Service Medals. Speakers included Connecticut Depart- ment of Veterans Affairs Commission- er Thomas John Saadi, CFDA President David W. MacDonald , and U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, among others. Mike Parson recent- ly appointed two Mid- Missouri residents to the state board for embalmers and funeral directors. Victoria “Vicki” Anne Schwinke, of Jefferson City, and Greg Russell of St. Thomas, will serve on the State Board of Embalm- ers and Funeral Directors. Schwinke is a retired high- er education professional. She served for 22 years with the State Technical College of Missouri in the roles of vice president of academic af- fairs and chief academic of- ficer. She retired in 2020. Prior to his retirement, Russell worked as an in- surance agent for Missouri Dental Insurance Servic- es Inc. His career also in- cludes 18 years as funer- al director and embalmer for Russell Colonial Fu- neral Home in St. Clair as well as 18 years as own- er and operator of the St. Clair Monument Com- pany. He earned a bach- elor of science in business administration from Wil- liams Woods University and graduated from the Kentucky School of Mortu- ary Science.
