FDLIC Recognized in the
National Top 20 Great
Places to Work List
ABILENE,TX—
Funeral Directors Life Insurance Com-
pany
(FDLIC) was recognized by Great Place to Work®
as one of the top 20 companies to work for in the United
States on their 2014 Best Small and MediumWorkplaces
list, published on September 18th in
Fortune
magazine.
FDLIC was ranked #18 out of hundreds of companies
analyzed across the nation. This honor is in addition to
being recognized earlier this year in
Texas Monthly
as the
#1 Best Company to Work for in Texas (mid-sized com-
pany) based on a survey by the Best Companies Group.
For this nation-wide survey by Great Place toWork®, FDLIC
participated in a rigorous selection process, which included an
employee survey and an in-depth questionnaire about benefits
programs and company practices. Great Place to Work® evalu-
ates each application based on five dimensions of a great work-
place: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.
“Our unique culture at FDLIC is built on Christian prin-
ciples of integrity, trust, mutual respect, and genuine care for
one another,” said
Kris Seale,
FDLIC president and CEO.
“One of our main objectives as a company is to be known as
a great place to work, and we are honored to be recognized
among the top 20 great places to work in the nation for 2014.
We are very fortunate to work with some really great people at
FDLIC—our people truly do make the difference.”
Most employees who commented on the survey by Great
Place toWork® cited the positive and supportive atmosphere as
the primary reason they enjoyed working at FDLIC. One em-
ployee said, “This company doesn’t feel like just a job. Everyone
here makes it feel like a family. If there is something going on
in your life, you always know that you will have the support of
your FDLIC family. People enjoy coming to work.”
The sense of community and care for one another at FDLIC
is apparent in the daily life of employees at the company. On
any given day, employees may be celebrating a birthday, a
baby shower, or participating in an impromptu kickball game
on the outside lawn. The company also provides opportuni-
ties for personal and professional growth through voluntary
programs such as their intercessory prayer group, frequent
book studies, and an online corporate university.
Employees also expressed their appreciation for FDLIC’s
unique workplace perks, including covered parking, free fresh
fruit provided daily, as well as an onsite clinic staffed by a
nurse practitioner and a state-of-the-art fitness center that fea-
tures aerobics, weight training, and yoga classes every week.
“The work of these companies is quite impressive,” said
China Gorman,
CEO of Great Place to Work®. “They
provide an example that others can look to, to see what
kind of outstanding workplace is possible—regardless of
size, industry, or other circumstances.”
Organizations named on the list see many benefits that
include better financial performance, less employee turn-
over, higher levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty,
more innovative and creative thinking, higher productiv-
ity and enhanced public perception.
