RUNNING A SUCCESSFUL
CREMATION SOCIETY
OKMULGEE,OK—
In
1968,
Jim McClendon
joined a firm with roots
dating back to the 1920s
serving families of Okmul-
gee. The addition of
Ja-
son Winters
in 1997 be-
gan changes and a pattern
of growth began. The firm
name was changed to
Mc-
Clendon-Winters Funer-
al Home.
In 1999, the
partners dedicated a facil-
ity in the historic library
building in Morris, pro-
viding a place for residents
of the Morris area to call
their own. In 2001, Mc-
Clendon-Winters Funeral
Homes dedicated a new,
modern facility in Beggs.
Together, McClendon and
Winters continue to serve
the families of Okmulgee
County, OK from three lo-
cations including their new
Life Celebration Center.
McClendon’s
person-
al motto is, “Treat every
family as if they were your
own,” Winters concurs,
“The overriding goal from
the very beginning was to
serve the families of this
county as we would wish
to be served. Over time
that goal motivated us to
expand or renovate so the
core intention remains the
same - to bring your family
comfortable surroundings
and excellent service at a
time in life when nothing
short of that will do!”
The newest growth oc-
curred in the late spring of
2013. The firm decided to
create a place for families
to gather and reminisce.
They purchased a building
adjacent to the current lo-
cation in Okmulgee, OK,
which was over 100 years
old and needed to be gut-
ted from floor to ceiling.
During the remodeling
Jim and Jason attended
the
NFDA
Convention in
Austin, TX, Jason walked
by the
Hekman Contract
Furnishings
booth and
was drawn in by a chair
on display. “The renova-
tion was made easier when
I could work on the inside
options in the evenings on
my own time, not on re-
tail store hours, using the
Hekman furniture cata-
logs. I was able to commu-
nicate through e-mail and
phone calls.
Sarah Tepe,
from
Cressy Memorial
was patient and answered
even the simplest of ques-
tions. I made my choices
based on wear-ability, style
and cost. Everything was
clear from the start – no
shipping costs or hidden
fees,” said
Nicole Winters.
“Upholstery was easy to
coordinate and Sarah kept
us informed every step of
the way. As I continue up-
dating and replacing fur-
niture, I look forward to
working with Hekman and
Cressy Memorial as my
first ‘go-to’ option. Hek-
man Contract Furnishings
helped to make it happen!”
