to “be backwards” accord-
ing to Mackey. The main
entrance is in the rear ad-
jacent to the parking lot.
“We love the country set-
ting,” added Mackey. “The
farmland is beautiful and
peaceful. We were careful
to preserve mature trees.
In the fall the view will be
even more spectacular. For
us this was a great location
because it is close to our
original Danvers location,
visible and easy to access.”
Stepping in from the
portico, a soaring foyer is
impressive and welcom-
ing. The design is hand-
icapped accessible and
friendly. Impressive details
like a small room with a
fireplace and room divid-
ers allow them to make
the chapel space comfort-
able for both large and
small services. The new fa-
cility has a children’s room
with computers and activi-
ties for kids while the par-
ents attend a funeral.
“It is all about the abil-
ity to personalize servic-
es these days,” explained
Mackey. “The new space is
comfortable and function-
al. It will allow us to pro-
vide a celebration of life
with state-of-the-art HD
televisions, video and au-
dio equipment.” As trends
in funeral services change
in the coming years Mack-
ey believes the new Mid-
dleton building will allow
them to be current and
flexible.
“My dad,
Elias J. Mack-
ey,
began in the busi-
ness after World War II.
We opened the Danvers
location in 1971. This
new building allows us to
meet the changing needs
of families. We are see-
ing fewer church services
and more cremations,” he
explained. “We are host-
ing larger and larger ser-
vices in-house. Cremation
is an increasingly selected
method because it can be
less expensive and allows
for a variety of memorial
service options,” he added.
“In Massachusetts, funer-
al homes cannot provide
cremation services directly,
we have to use licensed cre-
matoriums. We do howev-
er coordinate and person-
alize the services for our
families,” he said.

MIDDLETON,MA—
To
stay current and meet the
needs of the families they
serve,
Mackey Funer-
al Home
in Danvers has
opened a brand new build-
ing in Middleton.
Since 1971, the Mackey
Funeral Home has host-
ed individualized services
from the simple and tra-
ditional to the extravagant
and complex, according to
Daniel Mackey
funeral
director. “This new build-
ing provides an opportu-
nity for us to expand and
provide
state-of-the-art
services in a convenient,
yet country setting,” said
Mackey. “The new build-
ing offers many opportu-
nities for services we just
cannot provide in our
beautiful, but older build-
ing, in Danvers.”
Located along the com-
mercial strip of Route 114,
the building abuts farm-
land. It has been designed
