Todd brings with him decades of experience as both a practitioner and educator in the death care profession, including a stint at CCMS during the 1980’s. Most recently he served as Director of Continuing Education at the John A. Gupton College in Nashville, TN. In addition to his other achievements, Todd is a prolific writer. He has published dozens of books and manuals as well as more than 300 articles through his career. Many of his books chronicle the history of funeral service. CCMS president Jack E. Lechner, Jr. has called Todd, “the pre-eminent historian of the death care profession.” “Winston Churchill is credited with saying, “History doesn’t repeat itself, men who don’t know history repeat it.” Having Todd as part of our college ensures that our student body, faculty, and staff will be well aware of the history of funeral service,” said Lechner. Todd has spent a great deal of time volunteering for various organizations. He has served on many boards including Children’s Hospice Foundation of Vancouver, BC and the Free Store Food Bank in Cincinnati, OH. He is currently the chairman of the board of directors of the Front Porch: Center for Grieving Children and a board member of the International Cemetery, Cremation & Funeral Association Educational Foundation. Todd has also lectured internationally addressing death care professionals in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Germany. “We are honored and thrilled to be welcoming Todd back to CCMS,” said Lechner. “It feels like a homecoming. He is an incredibly valuable addition to our college.” “It is both nostalgic and humbling to be returning to the old and venerable Cincinnati College or Mortuary Science,” says Todd. “My intention is to make a worthy contribution to further enhance the mission of excellence, innovation, and creativity in the mission of funeral service education which has been the noble heritage of CCMS since its founding in 1882. It is my honor to be once again a part of the CCMS culture.” The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science is 501 (c)(3) organization. Established in 1882, its mission is to develop professionals who can function with distinction within their chosen profession and within the community of life.
