Their debut seminar “Death of Pet: How to Pre- pare the Body for Viewing” allows participants to ex- plore the do’s and do not’s of preparations of the body including special considerations and research- based community aspects of aftercare. The course presents information from modern grief theory and technical postmortem body preparations and instruction on how to provide a home funeral suc- cessfully for your beloved pet and your family. The program, which was open to the public, took place online via Zoom in July. The course was ap- proved for continuing education from the Acad- emy of Professional Funeral Service Practice for 2 Contact Hours. “Our inaugural class was a HUGE success! It went better than we both could have imagined,” says Torres. “Over the last 5 years, the number of inquiries about at-home pet death aftercare has skyrocket- ed,” said Imperi. “There are viable options for at- home care and both Monica and I were excited to share the technical aspects along with the emotion- al, mental and spiritual.” The seminar features real-life case studies of Imperi and Torres’ own pets who each received prepara- tions at home. The seminar continues with a practi- cal guideline on how to create a loving tribute at home for a beloved pet prior to burial or cremation, personal experience, and tips on how to move through this dif- ficult process with the support of friends and family.
