Lucille A. McGuire, 81, died Thursday evening, July 30, 2020 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family. Lucy started with Nomis Publications back in 1974. She typed the very first edition of the National Yellow Book of Funeral Directors, (now known as the Funeral Home & Cemetery Directory). The opportunity to stay at home as a single mom of four was so important to her. The directory became a very special part of her life. Over the years she actually did the “lay-out” for every page of the directory. This involved many hours, a light table and a T-square and blue pencil! As the company grew, so did the size of the office in her house. From a typewriter on the dining room table to the entire dining room. When that space was not enough, the dining room became the living room and the living room became the office. Eventually the op- erations expanded to the basement which contained a printing press and darkroom equipment. The office became a family affair. “In my teen years I worked summers with mom. My sisters and brother also helped out – as well as many of our friends. We would crowd on the front porch to label over 22,000 copies of the YB News each month,” said daughter Peggy. Lucy loved travelling to conventions with her boss and friend, Chet Simon. She loved this industry and the friends she made throughout the years. It was her idea to “shrink” the directory so that all fu- neral homes would have access to a copy – the Pocket Size edition remains an industry standard. In 1996 she gave the okay for the building of a website which was the first for a funeral trade directory. She enjoyed shar- ing news of the industry through the YB News (now the Funeral Home & Cemetery News ). When Simon retired she fulfilled a dream in purchasing the company. Over the years Lucy loved being able to offer summer jobs first to her children and then to her grand- children. She was proud to work alongside her daughters, Peggy Rouzzo and Kim McGuire, and to see her oldest granddaughter, Cindy DelSignore , join the business. Lucy’s greatest joy came from her family. Throughout the years, she stressed and instilled the importance of family and to always be there for each other. She taught us how to keep our work day and home life separate, never carrying an argument between the two. Thankful for family, Lucy’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving when she loved gather- ing everyone around the table. Lucy loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, having a special relationship and routine with each of them. We lost the Matriarch at Nomis Publications...
