Backwoods Caskets
is
introducing their line of
hand crafted caskets.
Jeff
Simmons
and his son,
Jeff, Jr
. put their wood-
working skills together
two years ago. Using wood
from local sawmills the
Simmons custom build
both full and half couch
caskets as well as crema-
tion caskets.
The full and half coach
caskets are available in
oak, cherry, walnut, barn-
wood, hickory, and even
a bit of sassafras. The cas-
kets, made of solid wood
with a minimum ¾-inch
thickness, have swing bar
handles and the bed is
adjustable on both ends.
“Oak is the best one,”
Simmons said. “A lot of
the caskets you buy are
imitation. These are made
in West Virginia. You’re
going to see flaws in them
but they’re handmade.”
Their cremation caskets
are made from pine and
oak. Swing bar handles are
available but not standard.
The interiors are also
handcrafted with white
polaris crepe or rose tan
velvet. Custom fabrics
are also offered. Most fre-
quently requested is the
camouflage interior which
is available in the usu-
al brown and green or in
pink.
