Whether continuing their family’s legacy or taking a leap of faith into the profession, they have become leaders through hard work and dedication to the Funeral Service Industry. As managers, owners, role models and mentors, each of these women have an inspiring vision, and have used their talents to help others. These leaders encourage creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and teamwork. They empower Monique Latimer graduated Magna Cum Laude from the State University of New York in Canton, where she received her degree in mortuary science. She did a year of residency with Millard E. Latimer & Son Funeral Directors, Inc under the direction and training of her husband, Millard E, Latimer, Jr. After receiving her morticians license and taking on the position of manager at Latimer Funeral Home, Monique joined the Rochester Genesee Valley Funeral Directors Association, attending meetings with her husband. She was nominated and elected to the board of directors and served as vice president for two terms. Then in 1990, Monique was elected the first woman and to date the association’s only African-American president, serving from 1990 to 1992. After losing her husband in 2011, Monique became president/CEO and continued the tradition of honest, reliable, efficient funeral service with dignity and respect. In 2022, the funeral home is celebrating 100 years in business.
