A licensed funeral director, he owned and operated Menter’s Ambulance and the James A. Menter Funeral Home for more than thirty years. Menter graduated from the Simmons School of Mortuary Science. JOHN E. ROBINSON of Delaware, OH died March 27, 2023 at the age of 80. A licensed funeral director and embalmer for over fifty years, he retired as a thirdgeneration owner and operator of Robinson Funeral Home, which his grandfather established in 1897. A 1964 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. JAMES M. SMITH of Somers, WI died April 4, 2023 at the age of 76. A Kenosha funeral director, he began his career at the Bruch Funeral Home, then worked at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home and retired after many years of serving families at the Proko Funeral Home. Smith graduated from the Milwaukee Area Technical College with a degree in mortuary science in 1989. Sandy served as the CEO and chairman of the board. A graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science, he was a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner, president of the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association from 19781979 and was a former board member of Selected Independent Funeral Homes. WILLIAM SANDERSON “SANDY” STUHR of Sullivan’s Island, SC died April 8, 2023 at the age of 88. He joined the family business, Stuhr Funeral Home in Cincinnati before returning to Iowa to join the family business, Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison. He and his wife, Deanna later opened a second location in West Point, BarrHoltkamp Funeral Home. They owned and operated both locations for more than twentyfive years. Barr graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1980. THOMAS “TOM” ZUBER BARR of Fort Madison, IA died April 11, 2023 at the age of 65. A funeral director and embalmer for forty-three years, he began his career in Texas and worked in Boston, Indianapolis, and the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home. In 2015, he returned to his roots in Williamsport and since then has been a funeral director at both Sanders Mortuary and Knight Confer Funeral Homes. A 1987 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, Hunsinger served as the Snyder County Deputy Coroner for 20 years. BRYAN H. HUNSINGER of Williamsport, PA died March 8, 2023 at the age of 58. He served his funeral director apprenticeship at Sanders Mortuary in Williamsport and at Trefz and Bowser Funeral Home in Hummelstown. Hunsinger was employed by and eventually owned the Aurand Funeral Homes of McClure and Beavertown, spending a total of 20 years at that location. He then moved to Hughesville and worked for 6 years at ticeship with the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home in Barre, VT and began his lifelong career in funeral service with Dickinson-Streeter Funeral Service, Inc covering the Springfield, MA and Brattleboro, VT offices. A graduate of the New England Institute of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association. ALFRED J. GAY of East Longmeadow, MA died March 22, 2023 at the age of 93. He served his apprenal homes in Minneapolis and Virginia, MN before becoming the manager at Range Funeral Home in Hibbing. Passeri moved to Grand Rapids in 1995 after accepting a job at Rowe Funeral Home, where he continued to be a funeral director until health issues forced him to retire in 2018. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Mortuary Science. BENNETT D. PASSERI of Grand Rapids, MN died March 19, 2023 at the age of 61. He worked at funerOlivet Cemetery before establishing the Gilbert W. Parthemore Funeral Home in 1969. Gil retired after owning and operating the funeral home for thirty years. A graduate of the Eckels College of Mortuary Science, he was a member and past district governor of the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and was a part of the Capital City Funeral Directors Association. GILBERT WALTER “GIL” PARTHEMORE of New Cumberland, PA died March 14, 2023 at the age of 88.
