The HP Indigo 7900 Digital Press installation was completed this month at the Crawford, GA pro- duction site. “Greater Georgia Print- ers was looking for a digi- tal solution to take the busi- ness to the next level, so we would not need to have a conversation with our cus- tomers about the differ- ence between our digi- tal and offset quality,” said Kevin Miller, plant man- ager of the Crawford, GA based printer, now marking its 50th anniversary. “With the HP Indigo press, we can offer our customers an iden- tical print experience, while offering better environmen- tal sustainability.” The HP Indigo 7900 Digital Press is manufac- tured carbon neutral, offers reduced production waste, and energy efficiency with an on-press recycling sys- tem. The new HP Indigo 7900 is equipped with premium capabilities, including spe- cial effects printing with raised and textured print, HP Indigo One Shot print- ing on synthetic substrates, and seven ink stations to support a 97 percent Pan- tone gamut and special spot colors such as white and florescent inks. “These spe- cial capabilities allow us to go deeper and wider within our existing accounts as well as get us into new existing accounts,” Miller added. The 19-inch HP Indigo 7900 delivers print quality equal or better to offset with the advantages of personal- ization for general commer- cial printing, photobooks, gift items, and a full range of cards. Replacing three printers with the HP Indigo press, Greater Georgia Print- ers and The Preneed Store also invested in HP Indigo’s smart printing tools – Auto- matic Alert Agent and Op- timizer- to ensure quality control and maximize up- time. Founded in 1969 by five newspaper publishers, the Crawford, GA business started with newspaper printing and has expanded in a full-service commercial printing house and The Pr- eneed Store, was purchased by Greater Georgia Printers in February 2018. Present in many religions and belief systems that the physical remains of the holy dead had curative and other powers. The Catholic Encyclopaedia points out that there are similar practices in other religions, and gives examples of, classical and even Buddhist, veneration of the physical remains of heroes and holy men. It is a widespread result of human emotion, as St. Thomas Aquinas pointed out in the thirteenth century, to treat the dead with respect: he argued that anyone who has been fond of someone during their lifetime will continue, after their death, to venerate what they leave behind, not only their bodily remains, but also such external items as clothing and the like. The nest was to be the meta- phor. She chose cremation, so her marker not only had to de- note where she was, but also had to contain some of her ashes. The first consideration was size, which was determined by the budget set at $10,000 in material costs. Rocks sourced from the family’s property serve as the base of the marker. The material of the curved facade is 3/8” sili- con bronze plate. The letters are cast silicon bronze in Tra- jan. Two nests were chosen from her collection in case one didn’t cast well. Branches were pruned from her 60 year old rosemary bush and individually invested and cast in bronze via the direct burn-out method. Each individual branch was welded to the cast bronze base nest to create the final composite. The life sized egg was built in a CAD 3D modeling program, made hollow, and divided it into two halves that fit together. It was 3D printed in wax and cast in silicon bronze using the lost wax method. Inside the sealed egg are her mother’s ashes, personal charms, and a private note. The nest reliquary was then placed in the hol- low of a curved bronze wall with her name, birth and death dates. All elements were welded together and the marker was prepared with threaded rod to be epoxied into the drilled stone base. Binding the marker to the rock was done on-site. “I was aided in the fabrication of this piece by Nic Spitler, head of design for FireFeatures, metalsmith Tim Kohchi of Tim Kohchi Metalsmithing, Elliot Gantz of Elliot Gantz Fine Art Foundry, and John Pesavento of Pesavento Monuments. Their contri- bution cannot be overstated,” said Elana. Elena has since created custom markers for oth- ers that salute their life and loves, which has led to an extraordinary and rewarding experience for both sculptor and bereaved. It is Elena’s goal to honor the dead through sculpture in an ancient way of paying respect and continuing the conversa- tion into the next realm.
