is still surprised that
clients began asking him for
cremation urns – happily sur-
prised that his art could be so
personal and helpful. That’s
how it all started 12 years ago.
Eventually Orth collected
these bronze urn designs un-
der the business name
A Dif-
ferent Kind of Urn,
which
now ships eight distinctive
fine art designs to funeral
homes across the country.
This past summer Orth
added two new designs to his
catalog. The Luna Urn is an

held its annual shareholders’ meeting on
Mackinaw Island. The shareholders ex-
pressed their continued support of each
of the existing directors and elected a
new member as well.

Vincent will continue to serve as presi-
dent, Wiens as vice president of finance
and treasurer, Crummitt as vice presi-
dent of manufacturing and Hardy as sec-
retary. The Executive Committee con-
sists of Crummitt, McQuestion, Vincent
and Wiens. Vincent is looking forward
to building on their past innovations
including DoricLink, the first iPad app
available in the burial vault industry. The
board will also build on last year’s success
of sourcing as many products as possible
within the United States.
Cooper is the newest director on the
board of Doric Products Inc. Jerry, hav-
ing been in the vault industry since the
early 60s, brings a wealth of experience
and knowledge with him. In 1975 Cen-
tral Burial Vaults was housed at one loca-
tion. Now, they operate three manufac-
turing facilities and received numerous
honors for their community and indus-
try activities.

Orth’s bronze urns are suit-
able for indoor or outdoor
use. Many families like the
option of placing the urn in
their gardens.
David Orth works in
wood, steel and bronze from
his rural studio just north-
west of Chicago. Orth’s
sculptures and furniture
have been featured in mu-
seums and galleries since
the early 1980’s. Orth has
taught sculpture, interior ar-
chitecture, and designed ob-
jects atThe School of the Art
Institute of Chicago. Author
James A. Mangum
has called
Orth’s work “amazing, over-
whelming, musical, rock
and roll, the blues, arias.”
Designer Sandy Hill says
the work has a “wonderful,
mess-with-your-mind ap-
peal.”

Most of his urns have this
flexibility in interpretation.
A choice of symbols is
available to mount on the
new Far Hills Urn: as the title
suggests, an urn resembling a
landscape of rolling hills or
foothills. Each of the bronze
symbols are designed with an
artist’s flair and hand-formed
in solid bronze. The symbols
are variously a sacred tree,
several crosses, a Star of Da-
vid, a Yin-Yang symbol, and
a winged form that suggests
