The Fergersons: Pioneers
of North Syracuse
The business then passed to another generation
headed by Alfred E. “Fred” and his wife Patricia H.
Fergerson who make their home in this landmark
building. A licensed funeral director, Fred graduated
from Onondaga Community College, SUNY Oswe-
go (with BS and BA degrees), and with honors from
Simmons Institute of Funeral Service. Fred taught
anatomy and physiology at OCC for over 24 years,
lectured at the Onondaga County Police Academy
and taught at Simmons School of Mortuary Science.
He is a member of the
New York State Funeral Direc-
tors Association, National Funeral Directors Association
and
Central New York Funeral Directors Associations
as
well as the
Flying Funeral Directors of America.
Fred
is a Mortuary Disaster Coordinator for the Federal
Emergency Management Agency, NFDA and for the
Village of North Syracuse.
A native of Syracuse, Pat holds a BS in biology
from LeMoyne College, a Simmons School of Mor-
tuary Science Diploma and was licensed in 1976 by
the state as a funeral director. She resided in James-
ville until moving to Watertown to serve her funer-
al service residency with
Cleveland-Spink Funeral
