The Fergersons: Pioneers of North Syracuse
A wedding gift from his father, Alfred C. Fergerson’s home on
South Main Street took over two years to build. The family fu-
neral business did not begin until Alfred’s son and daughter-in-
law, Alfred H. and Myrna B. Fergerson, founded the firm in 1948.
Picture circa 1908.
Taken during the period when Main Street was known as the
Plank Road, the child in the picture was born in 1911. The house
changed over the years and at one point during the depression
in the 1930s was a tourist home.
In 1939 teachers from the school next-door roomed with the
Fergersons. The awnings were installed for a family wedding
that year. During World War II the awnings were replaced by the
Flag of the United States.
Used as a postcard in the early 1900s, this picture shows Alfred
C. behind the steering wheel of the Cadillac that was one of the
first cars in North Syracuse.

NORTH SYRACUSE,NY—
The Fergerson family has
kept track of its ances-
tors. Not an easy task for
most, however, the Fer-
gerson family has lived
on the same North Syra-
cuse land for seven gener-
ations! They were among
the first settlers in North
Syracuse in 1826. The
original location of
Fer-
gerson Funeral Home
is
now an historic landmark
and currently used as one
of two casket selection fa-
cilities the family uses.
